O-LIVE flex (FLEXIBLE Online Learning in an Integrated Virtual Environment)

The City of Pasig and Barangay Palatiw have given their OFFICIAL APPROVAL for the participation of St. Gabriel International School, Inc. in the expansion phase of DepEd’s Limited Face-to-face Classes from March 31 to April 22, 2022.

Thus, SGIS brings O-LIVE flex (FLEXIBLE Online Learning in an Integrated Virtual Environment), which combines face-to-face classroom and online learning in a well-crafted holistic curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 12.

The official permit was awarded to SGIS for its adherence to the health and safety protocols set by the government and its submission of compliant academic activities for onsite and online students.

The O-LIVEflex program will have one section per grade level on-site, while the other sections will remain in an online class setup. This setup means that both online and onsite students will be learning separately, to ensure the dynamism and best methodology per class type (face-to-face vs online) is applied.

We are grateful and excited to be offering this program. We hope that this is another step that will enable our school community to confidently move forward in addressing educational challenges during the pandemic.

Face-to-Face Implementation

Our first day of Face to Face Class Pilot Implementation for the approval phase last March 21, 2022 was a success!

Trial classes from Grades 1, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 12 were on site to participate in the Simulation for DepEd approval.

We were all so happy to see some of our students back and the smiles on their faces also showed the same excitement and happiness!

Thank you to our students for your participation and observing our school's safety protocols. Thank you as well to the teachers, staff, and our administrators for all the hard work and preparations to see this through.

We look forward to full implementation in the weeks to come.

O-LIVE (Online Learning in a Virtual Environment) for the SY 2021-2022

SGIS' online distance learning classes (ODL) have been lauded as one of the best online distance learning programs among private schools in Pasig.

We will continue to offer our online distance learning classes, the O-LIVE (Online Learning in a Virtual Environment) for the SY 2021-2022.

O-LIVE uses Microsoft Teams to connect teachers and students via video conferencing. SYNCHRONOUS classes, wherein students learn together in real-time, are conducted via such Teams calls, live chat, or live-streamed instructional videos. However, O-LIVE also provides supplemental instruction through asynchronous material: recorded presentations, discussion boards, and other downloadable resources.

For ASYNCHRONOUS classes, SGIS has a unique GUIDED STUDY SESSION PROGRAM where students do their teacher-assigned learning activities (outside of synchronous classes) under the supervision of their teachers. Teachers also have regularly scheduled consultation hours during the asynchronous time to help students with any additional questions.

SGIS O-LIVE (Online Learning in an Integrated Virtual Environment) has been widely lauded as one of the BEST ONLINE DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAMS among private schools in Pasig.

We asked several parents to share what they and their kids love about our online distance learning classes

We transferred our child to SGIS for this school year at the recommendation of a friend whose 3 children have been students of SGIS from the start and we are so happy we did!

My Grade 11 son was able to attend the Dry Run last month and we were all very impressed by how the online classes were conducted. What impressed me most was even though it is an online class, there was still an active discussion and the teachers are still able to give personalized attention to the students. In our experience with other online programs in other schools, there wasn’t much conversation and students will just listen to the teacher and do their assignment and modules. I really appreciate the effort of the teachers to make the classes as interactive as possible and my son is now able to understand the lessons during class time (synchronous sessions) whereas he used to have to wait for his dad to come home to get help with his homework before. For any other follow up questions, the teachers are always available and very accommodating during asynchronous sessions. It’s still actually a full day’s schedule with the teachers. I can see my son actually learning during class time, working on his assignments, and gaining mastery of the lesson during asynchronous time. I’m glad my son is now able to get quality online education with SGIS!

Last year we were shocked with a crisis that forced us all to quickly adapt to a new normal. I was, and still am, impressed by how the school was able to sustain quality teaching despite the immediate transition to online classes brought about by the pandemic. I appreciate that the teachers were able to give my daughter, Anika Revilla, the discipline and persistence to attend classes in spite of all the distractions and laziness which transpired from staying up at home the whole time. I have friends from other schools who complained a lot because their kids were able to sleep through classes without the teachers knowing it. Contrary, I have observed my daughter being occupied preparing for school same as to when there were still regular classes.

I applaud the teachers for truly being understanding and patient to the students. I can see the right balance of leniency and discipline given especially that these times are the most difficult for the kids. I really hope that this would still carry on because for us parents who work during daytime, we can’t provide so much of our time to assist our kids. Thus, it really helps that the teachers were already providing them with everything they need without too much demands.

What I truly appreciate as well is the continuance of exercises from their PE class since the quarantine gave them almost no physical activities at home. I would often see my daughter doing warm ups and interval trainings which I believe helped maintain her strength, motor skills, and mental clarity despite being locked down at home. This, I really am grateful of because again some of my friends who enrolled their children from different schools were disappointed that there were no physical activities implemented from their chosen institutions. I am satisfied that, at least in some ways, my daughter was still encouraged to get her body moving.

In addition, I also found no problems with the platform used for online classes. From what I have observed, my daughter could access it with ease.

In my honest opinion, I have not encountered any issues from this online transition that is why my husband and I decided to still enroll our daughter in SGIS.

I’m so happy with SGIS! It was my first time to try online schooling for my 5-year-old son during the DRY RUN for Pre-K last month.

Prior to these online classes with SGIS, he didn’t know how to write and I really couldn’t get him to practice on his own. He would always say that he doesn’t want to go to school. But in just a few days doing the online classes, he was suddenly looking forward to it! And after the 5-week run, he is now able to read and write. The teachers were very patient and really good at teaching kids. I’m so happy that I enrolled him with SGIS because of the engagement the teachers are able to offer, even online. I know that for kids this age, it’s quite hard, but they were able to do it so well. I’m glad that despite this pandemic, I have found the best partner for my son’s online education.

What are SGIS Teachers looking forward to this school year in their Online Distance Classes?

In March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the spread of COVID-19 a worldwide pandemic. As such, schools at every level were sent scrambling. Institutions across the world switched to Online or Distance Learning, with teachers, students, and parents quickly adapting to an entirely new way of life.

St. Gabriel International School strived to work hard to adapt to the need at hand – to quickly develop an online learning program for the New Normal. The SGIS O-LIVE (Online Learning in an Integrated Virtual Environment) program was launched in June 2020 using Microsoft Teams. The program was well-received by the Gabrielite community and was lauded by many as one of the best programs around.

Grade 10 Students Extend Their Gratitude Towards SGIS' Distance Learning Program

This is also their special tribute to all the hardworking teachers, admin staff, and management who worked so hard to make this schoolyear's ODL (Online Distance Learning) a success. SGIS's Success in O-LIVE Online Distance Learning Program

It’s an understatement to say that COVID-19 has changed the way we live. Though no one could have imagined 21st-century life in a pandemic, St. Gabriel International School (SGIS) had to imagine just how education would continue as effectively.

The result was SGIS’ Online Learning in an Integrated Virtual Environment (O-LIVE) program on Microsoft Teams, which has allowed Gabrielites to receive the same quality of learning from the safety of their homes.

Moving with the times

Leading up to O-LIVE, SGIS had already implemented a number of COVID-19 pivots. In March 2020, when classes were first suspended due to the Enhanced Community Quarantine, school administrators immediately drafted guidelines for the remainder of the school year. SGIS was ready with KPLUZ , its online learning resource with tutorials for a variety of subjects. Teachers also sent self-paced and interactive lessons via online messaging platforms.

Yet SGIS was committed to level up distance learning for the long term. By April 2020, school administrators were developing a more streamlined online learning curriculum, one that would keep classes engaging and prioritize student well-being. Faculty underwent training for online lectures and platform navigation. After two dry runs–in which student, parent, and teacher comments were considered–O-LIVE was officially launched for school year 2020-2021.

Connected with care

O-LIVE uses Microsoft Teams to connect teachers and students via video conferencing. However, O-LIVE also provides supplemental instruction through asynchronous material: recorded presentations, discussion boards, and other downloadable resources.

But this doesn’t mean that students are alone, because instructor availability and personalized guidance is of utmost importance to SGIS. Hence, the school has a unique Guided Study Session Program where students do their teacher-assigned learning activities (outside of synchronous classes) under the supervision of their teachers. Teachers also have regular scheduled consultation hours during asynchronous time to help students with any additional questions. While other schools have been challenged to transition online, SGIS has clearly worked to perfect this distance learning strategy–a careful balance of mentorship with self-paced study.

Beyond academics, SGIS has kept well-being at the forefront of O-LIVE. Class days normally start with group check-ins. Community events and even physical education classes have continued virtually. The family culture of SGIS is still top priority, as SGIS continues to improve O-LIVE based on student and parent feedback–though the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive so far.

As the school year comes to a close, we are proud to have stood as one SGIS in these changing times. Gabrielites and their families have indeed recognized how our school community was brought together despite the distance, through O-LIVE, which has been widely lauded as one of the best online distance learning programs among private schools in Pasig for the SY 2020-2021.

For the past twenty (20) years, SGIS had created a distinct culture which has been instilled in the very core of its students. SGIS Education did not just equip its students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the future, but it has made them capable to voice out their views, expose to them their real potential, lead them to become better persons, participate actively during cultural events and respond to the needs of the society. As a Gabrielite, they had the opportunity to share to the less fortunate through their yearly Christmas gift-giving and visits to Rizal Medical Center. In times of calamities, they were also encouraged to personally participate in the distribution of goods. The addition of Senior High School to the Basic Education Program opened up yet another opportunity to the students as they undergo the apprenticeship program as a requirement for graduation.

Having seen the students grow and hearing about how they are as adults today make the school really proud of the education it provides. The holistic and inclusive approach to education has developed students to be critical, confident and independent. It had made learning a process of self-improvement more than anything else. It explicitly recognizes the self and the social context of learning and the needs of the individual learners in the interaction. SGIS has produced graduates who are not only academically competent and skill-oriented but also socially aware and with an exemplary attitude towards work as a whole. They effectively contribute to the development of their country in their chosen professions.

On the 20th anniversary of SGIS, it gives due recognition to its graduates who are now in the medical field and those who opted to serve amid the Pandemic. They are indeed replete with mixed emotions but their passion to serve, their compassion to others, their perseverance and commitment to their sworn-to professions had kept them going. Continue to carry the Gabrielite torch during these unprecedented times!

As a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Department of Education was urged by the the local government units to postpone the year-end rites.

For the school year 2019-2020, St. Gabriel International School has: twenty-two (22) Grade 12 graduates, forty-six (46) Grade 10 completers, fifty (50) Grade 6 graduates and nineteen (19) Kindergarten completers.

The Grade 12 students underwent rigid course requirements such as: Work Immersion, Community Immersion, Research Writing and Defense, Feasibility Study and Science Investigatory Project. The Work Immersion is the heart of the Senior High School Curriculum. It gave the students the experience to be part of the workforce for a minimum of eighty (80) hours. Most of our students went to Greenwoods Pet Hospital. Last March 31, 2020, they received their Special Order Numbers for successfully completing the requirements of the secondary curriculum.

Gwen Stacey in the Amazing Spider-Man 2 said in her speech, "It’s easy to feel hopeful on a beautiful day like today, but there will be dark days ahead of us too. There will be days where you feel all alone, and that’s when hope is needed most. No matter how buried it gets, or how lost you feel, you must promise me that you will hold on to hope. Keep it alive. We have to be greater than what we suffer."

The SGIS Dream – How It Started 20 Years Ago

St. Gabriel International School celebrated its 20th year in June 2020.

Looking back, it started as a dream for our beloved founder, Dr. Mildred A. Go. She envisioned a school that will be guided by a Global Philosophy of Education, concretized by multicultural and intercultural approaches in the teaching and learning process. This dream came into fruition when she established Manila Xiamen International School (MXIS) in 1993 with Engr. Roman T. Go for children of expatriates in China. It offered a Basic Education Curriculum combining English and Mandarin Languages for instruction, while using Western and Eastern educational materials. To date, MXIS has successfully produced thousands of graduates from over 30 countries. MXIS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. IBDP graduates are successfully admitted in prestigious universities and colleges around the world.

Following the success of Manila Xiamen International School, Dr. Go decided to establish another one in the Philippines. This time, she envisioned an institution for the children (ages 3-18) of returning overseas Filipino families and dependents of transient foreigners. St. Gabriel International School (SGIS) was founded in 2000, offering complete Kindergarten, Elementary and High School courses. Engr. Roman T. Go supervised the construction of its first 18-room building and a gymnasium. With a permit to operate granted by the then Department of Education, Culture and Sports, the school opened in June 2000. There were just less than 100 students from Kindergarten to High School, being taught by thirteen carefully selected teachers. Today, SGIS has grown from its humble beginnings into a sprawling campus comprised of six multi-storey buildings with 2 multi-purpose halls, a covered court, an indoor basketball court, and an indoor training pool. Its newest building, for completion this 2021, houses the new two-floor cafeteria and a state-of-the-art auditorium.

Through the years, Dr. A. Go has been recognized for her contribution in the field of Education, not just in the Philippines but also in China, and counts the following awards in her achievements: Presidential Citation Banaag Awardee - Philippines, Friendship Award as an Outstanding Foreign Expert National Level - People's Republic of China, Gusi Peace Prize in Education Awardee, et al.

SGIS has sown the seeds of education for the past two decades, and this is all through the vision of Dr. Mildred A. Go. Now, more than ever, we have seen the importance of education in this pandemic. 20 years later, SGIS is still going strong, and we are proud that we can still ably continue teaching and nurturing our students through our highly successful O-LIVE (Online Learning in a Virtual Environment) program. Our excellent programs not only address academics but all aspects of student life, socially and emotionally even through distance learning. We are proud of the work we have done the past 20 years and we look forward to doing more in the next 20 (and more) to come!

Oplan Taal Relief Operations

On Sunday, January 12, 2020, Taal volcano, the smallest active volcano in the world, began to spew an ash cloud kilometers into the sky.

It happened so fast and so suddenly that within a couple of hours, ash began to hit the pavement in Alabang, Makati and Manila just 60-70km south of the eruption. This forced thousands of Filipino families living within the circumference to evacuate as the PHILVOLCS raised Alert Level 4. The entire province of Batangas was placed under a state of calamity due to the eruption.

In response, our sister school, Manila Xiamen International School, in Xiamen, China, raised funds through a food sale. The Philippine Consulate General in Xiamen and Filipino Association in Xiamen also made valuable contributions to purchase the goods for distribution. This was also made possible by the collective efforts of the following - Dr. Mildred A. Go, Engr. Roman T. Go, teachers, students and parents of St. Gabriel International School.

In the spirit of bayanihan, last January 28, 2020, 550 relief bags were successfully delivered to several affected communities in Batangas, namely: (Brgy. Talisay - 250 families, Mabini - 56 families, San Luis - 95 families, Agoncillo - 36 families, and in Bauan (Cupang Elem. School) - 113 families).

The Spartans place Top 4 in Asia Pacific Basketball Youth Cup in Singapore

October 24 to 27, 2019 - SGIS Spartans Takes Fourth Place in the 8th Asia Pacific Basketball Youth Cup in Singapore

The SGIS Spartans takes the 4 ^th place out of 16 teams in the 8 ^th Asia Pacific Basketball Youth Cup which came to a close last October 28, 2019 in Singarope. The teams advanced to semi finals but lost against Binar Sports- Australia and KharismaBangsa B- Indonesia.

In the roster were seasoned Spartans trained by Coach/ Administrator Christian Go and Coach Peter Tioseco, they were Matthew Go, Mar Angelo Clemente, Chris Angelo Cocjin, Mikel Tioseco, Saelac Antje Dy, John Vincent Delos Santos, Clark Jacob Llamoso, Uriel Quijano, Raiam Tumulak and Keith Marco Velasco. This year new and promising players joined the team, namely: Gian Aron Maine Caron, Marcus Joshua Cruz, Wesley David Custodio, Prince Angelo Cruz, Loudakris Tuppal and Joseph Miguel Molas.

Ms. Carmencita Abuso accompanied the team from October 23-28, 2019. Special thanks to all the parents who entrusted their children to the SGIS Spartan Basketball Training Camp.

To actualize the SGIS Vision of promoting holistic education, the school has worked to participate in various athletic competitions, not only among our students, but also among those from other schools. This year, we have participated locally and internationally.

July 27, 2019 - CSBL Invitational League - SGIS Hoplites won over the Pasig City Selection Team (48- 34)

The SGIS Hoplites won over the Pasig City Selection Team in the CSBL League Invitational Game held last July 27, 2019. Saelac Antje Dy, Ravin Aldrich Agon, Miguel Favila and Rodch Tumulak were chosen among the Mythical 5. Matthew Go was the Most Valuable Player of the Game (29 points, 4 Blocks).

September 28-29, 2019 - 2019 PSI Swimming Short Course

Iammejen Lopez got the 4th Place and qualified in the National Championship while Antonio Raphael Laron got medals in the different events of the Developmental Championship.

October 5 to 18, 2019 – Sent 2 Teams to the 3 ^RD BTA Basketball Developmental League

This year, SGIS sent two (2) teams to the 3 ^rd BTA Basketball Developmental League. The 12 and Under Division was participated in by five other teams, namely: Homeschool Global, Life Academy, St. Paul College and Our Lady of Peace School, while the 17 and Under Division was participated in by Passion, St. Paul College, La Consolacion, Philippine Cultural College and AO1. It ran from October 5, 2019 to November 30, 2019.

The SGIS Hoplites (12 and Under Division) got the second place against CCF Life Academy while the SGIS Spartans (17 and Under Division) bagged the 3 ^rd place.

Mr. Christian Go has been coaching the SGIS Hoplites for the past 3 years and they had shown significant improvements in their league standing.

October 1 to 19, 2019 Pasig City Private Schools Administrators Association Sportsfest 2019

Pasig City Private Schools Administrators’ Association organizes a yearly Sportsfest among schools in Pasig City. It opens with a parade of muses and escorts from the participating schools. SGIS sent seventy-six (76) athletes to this year’s event. The teams garnered the following medals and trophies:

Swimming - Coach Aljimar Aming

Secondary Boys – Champion

Elementary Girls – 2nd Runner-up

Basketball – Coach Peter Tioseco

Secondary Girls – First Runner-up

Secondary Boys – 4th out of 25 teams

Badminton – Coach Joey Galindez

Singles A – Derrick Sean Garrucho – 4th

Doubles – Girls – 4th

November 9, 2019 to February 2020 – Metro Manila Basketball League 2019

This SGIS Spartans participated in this year’s Metro Manila Basketball League 2019. It was participated in by eighty-four (84) schools in Metro Manila. They were divided in twelve (12) divisions of six (6) teams each. The first placer of each division advances to semi-finals. As of today, the team is on 4- 0 standing after competing against Faith Academy, Our Lady of Perpetual Succor School and Our Lady of Peace.

November 27, 2019 Division Meet

Some of the members of the swimming team advanced to the Division Meet and brought medals to the school. They were:

Antonio Raphael Laron (2 Gold/3 Silver)
Iammejen Lopez (2 Gold/2 Silver)
John Benedict Santos (2 Gold/ 2 Silver/ 2 Bronze)
Ayra Aiesha Negrillo (1 Gold/1 Gold)
Chrislan Lour Clay Reyes (1 Gold)
Stephen Medalla (1 Gold).

Laron, Lopez and Santos will represent Pasig City in the National Capital Region (NCR) Meet.

This is in line with the school’s vision of developing holistic individuals through organizing cocurricular programs and involving them in various athletic competitions For the past twenty (20) years, SGIS has invested on facilities that will serve as the venue for training the students.

Historical Sites in Metro Manila Revisited

The Grade 12 went to a Cultural Immersion to historical sites in Metro Manila as part of the requirements in their curriculum.

They visited Rizal Park, National Museum, Fort Santiago, Museo Pambata, American Cemetery and Ayala Museum with Ms. Angelene Lee and Mr. Bernardo Franco.

Beauty and the Beast

A Christmas Presentation: Beauty and the Beast

Disney's animated adaptation of the French fairy tale "Beauty and the Beast" hit movie theaters in 1991. It is an important Disney property for several reasons. It was the first animated film to ever score a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards, and it was also the first Disney animated feature to be turned into a Broadway musical. In 2017, the live movie version was released to critical and popular acclaim. SGIS brings the animated film’s characters to life by putting together excerpts from the film. The entire stage was painted by Ms. Milani Santos. Ms. Menchie Abuso directed the play while Ms. Anj Lee choreographed the dances. Dr. Mildred A. Go was the overall producer of the show. A Matinee Show with gift-giving was held last December 16, 2017 for the benefit of students from Ilugin Elementary School and the support personnel of SGIS. This was followed by the Gala Show last December 17, 2017 in the evening. Different grade levels danced to the tune of Christmas songs for the third part of the program. Raffle prizes were given towards the end of the show. Two E-bikes were given for the grand prize. It was indeed a merry celebration of the longest season of all.

Buwan Ng Wika 2017: Wikang Filipino, Wikang Mapagbago

The month of August marks the celebration of National Language Month (Buwan ng Wika) with the theme “Filipino: Wikang Mapagbago."

The celebration is spearheaded by Mr. Bernardo Franco Jr. and the Filipino Department to promote the use of the Filipino language. Pagsusuot ng Kasuotang Pilipino, Poster Making, Spoken Word Poetry, Panonood ng mga Dula, Patinikan sa Panitikan (Pag-awit ng mga Awiting Pilipino (4-6), Pagbigkas ng Tula (1-3), Likhawit (7-12)), Palarong Pinoy, Kainang Bayan at Kulturang Sayaw. “Buwan ng Wika" is a time to remind the students and teachers alike of the importance of the Filipino language. Language is one of the things that could identify a person's nationality. It is a time to take pride of the beautiful culture of the Filipinos. As national hero Dr. Jose Rizal once emphasized the importance of national language, “Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika ay higit sa hayop at malansang isda; kaya ating pagyamaning kusa, gaya ng inang sa atin ay nagpala.”

The Spartans in Xiamen

After winning in the SGIS Basketball Friendship League 2017 and 3rd in the PAPRISA Sportsfest 2016, some players of the SGIS Basketball Team joined Coach Peter Tioseco in a Study-tour at Manila Xiamen International School.

Prize of Division Meet 2017 Participant

Students from our Taekwondo and Swimming Teams who advanced to the Pasig City Division Meet were given free round-trip tickets, board and lodging for a 10-day Study-tour Program at MXIS.

They were escorted by Ms. Mench Abuso.
